Earrings-Standing The Test Of Time

Believe it or not earrings have been worn since at least 3000 BC. Coins from ancient Greece depicting women wearing ornate earrings and sculptures from ancient Egypt show the early ear plugs that fitted into stretched openings in the ear lobe. These early records of earrings tended to be hooped or drop and, in early Rome, earrings were used by women to show of their wealth. Today the wearing of earrings is still extremely popular with a variety of positions for the piercing and numbe5A9r of holes so that multiple earrings can be worn at any one time.

There is a wealth of styles and designs of the jewelry itself. We have studs, small, discrete and fitting flat against the lobe; hoops of all sizes, with or without attachments; drop earrings of all lengths, some simply metal and some with jewels or beads. Although piercing is now very straightforward and done with a sterile procedure, some people would rather not have their ears pierced so will buy clip on earrings, these simply pinch onto the ear lobe to give the same effect as wearing pierced.

We now find earrings made from all types of metal from simple base to the most exquisite platinum. Some are fashionable items with modern designs and others are more classic set with every gemstone possible.

More and more earrings are becoming a unisex item of jewelry and whole ranges for men and boys are being designed.

Earrings draw attention to, and frame, a face. They can compliment an outfit, adding colour and sparkle They can simply enhance a mood by their effect on the way you look and feel when wearing them and as we can see their popularity has stood the test of time.
